Topic/Application: Podcasting/Webcasting

Research: identify examples to share, different products to use,
  1. Technology Students create a podcast of the current driver's manual for auditory learners to use.
  2. Teachers can use webcasts to create an interactive lesson for times when they are absent.
  3. Jessamine County is focusing on using Moddle to enhance instruction and integrate technology. Podcasts and Webcasts can be linked and saved on Moodle pages. This will allow students easy access to podcasts and webcasts.

Create/link to example(s):
  1. Helpful links I found throughout my research:

Instructional Routine: rubric for grading, sytematic/routine use, getting/managing student access
  1. Peer review: students grade each other's podcast/videocast
  2. Helpful websites

Issues/Barriers- Potential solutions:
  1. Technology ready and easy to use
    • I-Tunes available on all Netbooks (create a classroom account?
  2. Time involved in the creation of a podcast (Jessamine County uses pacing guides. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to teach a certain concept within a specific period of time. The pacing guides have limited the ability to do long term projects at our school since we operate on a different calendar).
  3. Often times RSS feed is associated with the creation and listening of a podcasts. I have at times run into issues with RSS feeds and my district's current proxy setting.
    • The district's technology department would have to be involved in allowing RSS feeds to be used.
  4. Should students who have lost their internet rights be allowed to use/access podcasts?
    • District/school decision to be made before implementation of the project.

Advantages/disadvantages to specific application(s):
  1. We just ordered 14 Netbooks! Currently, we are brainstorming ways to embed Literacy Strategies as well as integrate technology into our classrooms. I have had "Create a Podcast" on my Professional Growth Plan for two years now. However, our currently technology was not ideal for easy podcast creation. Now that our new Netbooks will have a built in camera and microphone I will be able to easily create a podcast!
